Time Management in Quarantine

Being trapped in the realm of online school is like a never-ending cycle. To say it is tiring and exhausting would be an understatement. It may be difficult to imagine a more effective method that would assist us all in keeping on track. By learning virtually, we have all been prone to much more distractions than ever. Time management skills just simply diminish, and staying on task is relatively impossible. There are many ways, however, in which we can work to better ourselves during this difficult time.

In my perspective, joining some clubs after school has never been easier. My school is a long distance from my home, and I could never stay after school hours with no ride. Now that everything’s virtual, it is much easier to log in. Although being on Zoom for hours on end during regular school hours is way more than enough, getting leadership opportunities and involvement in clubs is only a click away.

Setting up a schedule may be the best thing one can do. Something as simple as a planner can help keep you motivated. Write all your assignments and highlight the priorities. This helps you keep on track and remind you of what tasks are to be performed every day.

Another technique that is proven to work for effective studying is the Pomodoro Technique. This technique involves breaking down work into 25 minutes with 5 minutes break in between. This creates a sense of priority. You begin to feel like you have less time to do the work rather than laying down thinking you have all day. You work as much as you can get done in these 25 minutes. The “Focus To-Do” chrome extension allows you to easily access this timer, and as you use this technique, time management skills develop.

Being in a virtual world can be mentally and physically exhausting. From joining clubs, prioritizing assignments, and working effectively, we can all collectively push towards making the best out of the current situation that we are all facing.
